The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of LIWARG Ventures, Ohemaa Adwoa Ofori, has called on the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) to support young entrepreneurs by certifying their products early for them to market and make ends meet.
According to her, the delay in approval had resulted in “galamsey selling” by many product manufacturers.
Speaking in an interview with the Max Morning show in Accra on Tuesday, Ohemaa said she applied for FDA registration in order to legally obtain a license to start selling her cleaning and skincare products, but after two years of registration, her products have not been approved yet.
She noted that her products might have gained legal certification if she had given them a special amount to entice those involved to give them a premium.
“As a start-up, because you don’t have money, you can’t register your products with the FDA due to some goros there,” she stated.
She lamented that the institution that had to approve and create awareness of the need to register products was not doing its job right, making young entrepreneurs struggle in their bid to make money to cater for their needs.
Ohemaa claimed that she was told by those “goro boys” at the institution to pay $3,000 for a fast approval, and since she did not have the money, she was still on the waiting list.
