Former editor for the Kotoko Express and renowned Ghanaian journalist Jerome Otchere has cautioned Asante Kotoko fans to be patient with the appointment of head coach Prosper Nartey Ogum, imploring the passionate fanbase to stick with the rebuilding module.
The club has witnessed a steep decline in churning out results since winning the BetPawa Premier League in the 2021/22 season, finishing 4th in the just-ended league season, and failing to advance to the latter stages of the domestic FA Cup and the CAF Confederations Cup.
The club has since reappointed its former coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum, as the new head coach while also making some vital decisions as it looks to take a new direction towards an anticipated trophy-laden season, including appointing a new Interim Management Committee (IMC) headed by Kwasi Appiah and also parting ways with its former General Manager, Nana Yaw Amponsah, a decision that came as an anticlimax for a section of the club’s fanbase.
As a former member of Asante Kotoko’s media team in the recent past, renowned journalist Jerome Otchere has cautioned the fans to be patient with the new manager and not expect a miracle for the coach in a statement that buttressed an earlier point made by the patron of the club, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, where he similarly entreated the coach [Ogum] to be patient with his rebuilding and not force him to win trophies for starters.
Speaking in an interview with Max FM about the team’s new direction, Jerome said, “I think I side with the King [Otumfuor]. I’d be glad we could win the GPL in the next three years, but if it doesn’t happen that way, we should be patient. The King is right; we [fans] shouldn’t expect trophies and silverware now.”
“You have to put in work before you can get success. And we all know there’s no success without hard work. Let’s not expect immediate results. Some fans won’t agree with me, but I care less. Look at a team like Mamelodi Sundowns; it took correct leadership, investment, money, and most importantly, patience to get to where they are now,” Jerome vented.
