EC to Rerun Ablekuma North July 11

Date:

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced a rerun of the parliamentary election in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency following disputes over the credibility of results from the December 7, 2024, General Election.

A press release dated July 2, 2025, and signed by Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chair of Operations, indicated that the decision was taken after a follow-up meeting held on Tuesday, July 1 with representatives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The controversy stems from the use of scanned Pink Sheets from 37 polling stations—documents submitted by the NPP after original copies were reportedly destroyed when party supporters invaded the collation centre. The NDC challenged the authenticity of these scanned results and demanded a full rerun in all 37 stations, arguing they had not been properly verified.

The NPP, however, insisted that only three polling station results were pending and that the scanned Pink Sheets had been reviewed by all party agents.

After extensive review, the EC clarified that 19 of the scanned Pink Sheets—though endorsed by agents—lacked validation from Presiding Officers, thereby warranting a rerun in those polling stations. The other 18 scanned results had complete validation and will not be affected.

The rerun is scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025, and the EC has assured the public of a transparent, fair, and peaceful process. The Ghana Police Service will provide security throughout the exercise.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to upholding electoral integrity and public confidence in Ghana’s democratic processes.
