Aduana Stars Captain : GFA Let Us Know The Way Forward Now

Date:

The captain of the Aduana Stars Football Club, Elvis Opoku, has indicated that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) should show leadership by making the clubs know the way forward with the Ghana Premeir League (GFA).

According to the Aduana Stars captain, the GFA should stop putting the clubs in suspense and be bold enough to cancel the league due to the Covid-19 pandemic or provide an alternative or measures that will help them.

Elvis Opoku, in a radio interview with host of Sportspack 1 show, Nana Gyasi Darkwah, on Max FM, emphasized that it is up to the football industry to take a bold decision to cancel the league since they are not sure of the way forward after the press briefing by the minister of sports Isaac Asiamah on easing of restrictions taken to tackle the covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking on Max 89.7 FM, Elvis Opoku said “It is fine if people are saying the league should be cancelled and started all over again. However, here is the situation that the coronavirus ,which caused the suspension of the league in the first place , is still around.”

He further said “As we speak leaders in the industry have not given or stated any measures put in place for the return of the league. Which is a great worry to me. Since there is no such measures at the moment, when are we starting the league? When will players get prepared? When at all will players who will represent Ghana in the CAF Champions League have time to prepare?”

“We are expecting the GFA to make it clear whether the league will return or not. We all know the damages the coronavirus has caused.  They can make us know if the league will be cancelled or measures put in place to return to the league. However, we haven’t heard anything from them but it is my prayer that they will come out with a final decision as soon as possible so that the players and the team owners know their way forward,” he concluded.

Reports by www.maxfmlive.com  indicates that majority of the clubs are calling for the cancellation of the  league since there is no clear sign that the coronavirus pandemic will be over any time soon .

The GFA is also running out of time to notify CAF on whether it will cancel the suspended season or continue with the season when health experts give the green light for football to resume in future. The FA has until May 5, 2020 to let CAF know what decision it will take.
