The Vice Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Alex Ackumey, has said on Max 89.7 FM  that  the Ghana Football Association (GFA) should have the courage and cancel  the League   because it is not safe for the return of  football at this very Covid-19  moment .

According to the GHALCA Vice Chairman, the GFA should be bold enough and cancel the league since there is no sign that the Covid-19 pandemic will be over soon.

Speaking in a radio interview with Nana Gyasi Darkwah on Max FM’s Sportspack 1 show, Mr. Alex Ackumey stressed that it is up to the football industry to take a bold decision to cancel the league since they are not sure of the way forward after the press briefing by the minister of sports Isaac Asiamah on easing of restrictions taken to tackle the covid-19 pandemic.

Answering a question by Nana Gyasi Darkwa, host of Sportspack 1, whether he (Alex Ackumey) as an individual club person would advice Kurt Okraku, the GFA president and the executive committee to cancel the league, the GHALCA Vice Chairman said “Of course yes!  Before the easing of the of restrictions we believed things will go down so that we can return to the league since we can endure within three months without football but no player can stay away from individual training for five months.”

“Why do we keep the clubs in suspense? Let me tell everybody that we should cancel the league,” he added.

The comments by Mr. Alex Ackumey come days after the Ghana Football Association (GFA) met with clubs and stakeholders to determine the future of the various leagues due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to reports by www.maxfmlive.com , majority of the clubs are calling for the league to be truncated as there is no clear sign as to when football will return.

The GFA is also running out of time to notify CAF on whether it will cancel the suspended season or continue with the season when health experts give the green light for football to resume in future. The FA has until May 5, 2020 to let CAF know what decision it will take.
