Ghana Premier League (GPL) newbie Hohoe United have played a pulsating goalless draw with Heart of Lions.
The matchweek 17 encounter, dubbed ‘The Volta Derby’, saw Hohoe United welcome regional rivals at the Hohoe stadium.
This was the first time ever that both sides took on each other in the history of the Ghana Premier League.
Hohoe, stuck in the relegation zone, were looking to climb out with a win, while Lions targeted a return to winning ways.

Kwadwo Obeng Jr and Michael Ephson missed glorious chances to hand Heart of Lions the lead, while Ebenezer Abban’s 16th-minute header struck the post.
Hohoe had their chances despite Lions’ dominant first-half performance. Seedorf Asante and Bismark Anim combined to deny the home team from scoring in the 20th minute.
Captain of the home team, Safianu Usman, missed the chance of winning the game for his side after a terrible miss from the penalty spot in the 69th minute, to the dismay of the fans in the stands.
Former Hearts of Oak winger Obeng Jr, in turn, horrendously failed to convert a one-on-one chance soon after.
The stalemate lifts Hohoe United to 14th and Lions to 6th on the 2025-26 GPL standings for now before the rest of the week 17 matches come off on Sunday, January 4, 2026.
