The Muslim community and Ghanaians at large bade farewell to the late Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed and the late Alhaji Muniru Limuna Mohammed on Sunday, August 10, 2025.
Alhaji Murtala Mohammed, who was the minister for environment, science, and technology, along with Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, was part of the eight occupants who lost their lives in the August 6 helicopter crash.
Per Islamic traditions, they were supposed to be buried as soon as possible after death, ideally within 24 hours, but due to the nature in which they died, their remains had to be sent to South Africa for DNA identification.
Jannaza prayers were held at 2:00 pm at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra, followed by burial at 2:30 pm at the Military Cemetery, also in Accra, despite the original plan by their families to have them buried in their respective hometowns.
Among others who also lost their lives are Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah; former Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Samuel Sarpong; Samuel Aboagye, a former MP and National Vice Chairman of the NDC; and Ghana Armed Forces personnel Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
