Sports Minister Kofi Adams has revealed plans to renovate the Cape Coast Stadium and designate it exclusively for Black Stars matches.
His statement follows Ghana’s struggles with deteriorating sports infrastructure, which led to a temporary CAF ban on hosting international games due to the lack of a certified Category A stadium.
Speaking to TV3, Adams said, “Cape Coast Stadium is the easiest to refurbish quickly. For now, we’ll reserve it for the Black Stars and not allow club matches there.”
He added that the stadium would be ready for Ghana’s September and October World Cup qualifiers, after which Accra and Kumasi stadiums would also undergo renovations.
Cape Coast Stadium last hosted an international match in November 2021, when Ghana defeated South Africa 1-0 in a World Cup qualifier. It has since failed to meet CAF’s licensing standards.
