Highlife can make you hit – Kwabena Kwabena

Date:

Highlife musician Kwabena Kwabena has expressed concern about how musicians have neglected highlife music to embrace foreign genres.

According to him, the highlife genre has the potential of projecting musicians and making songs a hit.

Speaking in a recent media interview, the “Tuamudaa” hitmaker noted that many hit tracks were deeply highlife rooted, and thus, expressed the need for the genre to be embraced.

“Highlife is thriving, and if you want hits, stick to the genre. Some may think it’s old-school, but many of Ghana’s biggest hits—such as Fameye’s Very Soon, King Paluta’s Makoma, KiDi’s Lomo Lomo, and Stonebwoy’s Jejereje—are deeply rooted in Highlife,” he explained.

Kwabena Kwabena emphasized the need for musicians to take a second look at highlife, adding that the genre could project Ghana and defeat the Afrobeats and other genres.

Reflecting on his 20-year music career, he stated that his greatest achievement was being relevant throughout his career and also thanked fans for their unwavering support.

“Being in the industry for close to two decades is my biggest reward. Next year marks 20 years and staying relevant all this time is the greatest gift God has given me,” he added.
