Reigning La Liga champions, FC Barcelona, are planning to sign Spanish-born Nico Williams on a free transfer from Athletic Club.
The forward, whose contract with the Basque club will end in June 2024, has become a prime target for the Catalan giants.
However, due to Barcelona’s current financial restraints, the club is only ready to acquire him on a free transfer.
Athletic remain intent on signing the 22-year-old to a new contract amid plans to hand him a significant salary increase, but Real Madrid, who expressed interest once, are now set to face a fierce battle from Barcelona for the youngster’s signature.
