Members of the ninth parliament have re-elected Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin as its Speaker.
The Majority leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson’s motion to nominate of Hon. Bagbin was seconded by Afenyo Markin, leader for the Minority.
Though Hon. Markin seconded the motion, he had earlier opposed it, but Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and other Majority members argued against debating on seconding the motion.
Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, acting Clerk-to-Parliament, instructed that Bagbin was ushered into the Chamber after overruling Hon. Markin’s objection.
Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo then proceeded to administer the oath of allegiance and the Speaker’s oath to Hon. Bagbin.
With the ninth Parliament having 183 members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as Majority and 88 members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as Minority, it will be presided over by Hon. Bagbin as Speaker, Hon. Bernard Ahiafor,, First Deputy Speaker, and Hon. Andrew Asiamah Amoako, Second Deputy Speaker.
