Parliament has approved a $360 million financing agreement between the Government of Ghana and the World Bank’s International Development Association (IDA) under the Second Resilient Recovery Development Policy Financing initiative.
The agreement, presented to the House on Tuesday by Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem, is intended to support efforts to enhance livelihoods, accelerate economic growth, maintain macroeconomic stability, reduce inflation, and drive economic recovery.
The Finance Committee endorsed the agreement and recommended its approval. However, the Minority raised concerns during the debate.
Ranking Member of the Committee on Economy and Development, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, criticised the government for what he described as the use of semantics to mask the deal as a policy instrument rather than a loan.
