Roger Barnor, the second vice president of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), has officially taken over as acting president following the resignation of Abraham Kotei Neequaye last week.
Barnor, a retired international boxing referee, steps in at a critical time for the GBA. According to the GBA constitution, the first vice president should have assumed the position. However, that seat remains vacant after Rabon Dodoo resigned in 2023 due to what he described as “philosophical differences” with Kotei-Neequaye.
Dodoo has since expressed his intention to contest the presidency in the upcoming elective congress. Businessman and renowned boxing promoter Ivan Bruce Cudjoe is also expected to contest. Cudjoe, who previously managed boxers such as Lartey Harrison and Patrick Allotey, owns Travel Matters Ghana.
Per the GBA’s constitution, the authority was supposed to hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in May ahead of the July congress. However, the AGM has not been held in the past five years. Sources indicate the Ministry for Youth and Sports, through the National Sports Authority, is insisting that the AGM be conducted before the elective congress can proceed.
A new proposal suggests combining both the AGM and the congress into a single-day event—a suggestion currently under consideration by the Ministry.
