There is a major boost in the country’s entertainment industry as actor John Dumelo and musician-turned-pundit Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, win seats in parliament.
John Dumelo won his bid to represent the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency at the country’s parliamentary polls with 40,561 votes while Kwame A Plus won with 14,277 votes out of 36,026 total valid votes cast for the Gomoa Central in the Central Region.
The two entertainers who surprisingly gained a swift victory announced it on social media after the December 7 elections were collated under the constituency level.
John Dumelo, who contested on the platform of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), defeated his opponent Lydia Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who polled 27,377.
Kwame A Plus, contesting as an independent candidate, secured a decisive victory defeating the incumbent Member of Parliament Naana Eyiah Quansah of the NPP, who polled 11,637 votes, and Yawson Mohamed of the NDC who came third with 10,112 votes.
In a heartfelt message, John Dumelo thanked all fans and assured them he would continue his developmental plan for the people of Ayawaso West.
“Let this not get to our heads; this is a valuable lesson for everyone. It’s not about money; it’s about the development of the people and addressing their needs. We will do our best over the next four years to bring meaningful change to Ghana and steer it in the right direction,” he said.
Kwame A Plus also thanked all meaningful Ghanaians for the massive change they voted for and promised to do his best for the people of Gomoa Central.
