2024 CAF Awards: Ademola Lookman, the Super Eagle on top of Africa

Date:

Nigeria and Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman has been named CAF African Men’s Footballer of the Year.

The Super Eagles player was crowned on the night of Monday, December 16, 2024, at a glamorous CAF Awards ceremony in Marrakech, Morocco.

Lookman enjoyed a very successful 2023-24 season with club and country. The former Everton player scored a memorable hat-trick to win Atalanta their first-ever European trophy, the UEFA Europa League, against the invincible Bayer Leverkusen.

Born in Wandsworth, South of London, England, the 27-year-old opted to represent the country of his origin, Nigeria, at the senior level after featuring for the junior teams of England.

At the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Lookman helped the Super Eagles of Nigeria to the final, eventually losing to tournament hosts, Ivory Coast, in February 2024.

Lookman, who has scored eight times in thirteen games so far in the 2024-25 season in the Italian Serie A, has become a target for some top European clubs, but he has expressed his desire to staying in Italy.

He becomes the thirteenth Super Eagle’s player to win the CAF African Men’s Footballer of the Year.
