Wei Ye Oteng, a music producer, has expressed sadness about the passing of the veteran gospel musician Maame Tiwaa, widely celebrated for her powerful vocals with the Yaw Sarpong and Asomafo band.
According to him, Tiwaa should have been celebrated massively whilst she was alive.
Speaking exclusively on the Max Morning Show in Accra on Monday, Wei Ye Oteng observed that the authenticity of Tiwaa and her voice was unmatched.
”The authenticity is unmatched. Tiwaa is one of the singers; when you are producing, you wouldn’t need any autotune because her voice sounds perfect. Her voice is the same when she is singing in a live and studio. You can tell she took time to train herself, and it is sad that she couldn’t live long to impact such a gift to the generation,” he said.
Wei Ye Oteng further lamented how Ghana failed to celebrate her and expressed the need for the country to celebrate its heroes before their death.
Maame Tiwaa passed away in the early hours of Sunday, December 7, 2025, after a short ailment.
She was a central figure in Ghana’s contemporary gospel music scene for more than three decades, earning admiration for her vocal delivery and the spiritual depth of her performances.
She was best known for her contributions to some of Asomafo’s most iconic songs, including “Wo Haw Ne Sen?, Awurade Ka Me Ho, Yen Fa Oye Nkoaa, and Mensuro, which became staples in many Christian homes and worship spaces across the country.
