Nigeria’s Super Falcons have returned home in glory, landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, after clinching their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco.
The team arrived at 2:26 p.m. on a chartered flight and were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd of supporters and top government officials, including Minister of Information Mohammed Idris, Minister of Culture and Tourism Hanatu Musawa, and Minister for Women Affairs Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim.
To mark the historic achievement, the team will embark on a celebratory open-top bus parade through the streets of Abuja before proceeding to the Presidential Villa for an official reception with President Bola Tinubu.
The Falcons made headlines with their dramatic 3–2 comeback victory over host nation Morocco in Saturday’s final. Down 2–0 at halftime after goals from Ghizlane Chebbak and Mssoudy, Nigeria sparked a second-half revival.
Okoronkwo ignited the turnaround with a 63rd-minute penalty and then assisted Ijamilusi for the equalizer in the 71st minute. The winner came in the 88th minute when Jennifer Echegini finished off a well-placed free kick.
The win preserves Nigeria’s flawless WAFCON final record—10 titles from 10 final appearances—reinforcing their dominance as the most successful women’s football team on the continent.
