#UNITYCUP2025ONMAXTV: Super Eagles Need Unity to Beat Ghana – Alloy Agu

Date:

Former Super Eagles’ goalkeeper, Alloy Agu has pointed at unity, togetherness and one accord as positive factors that will help the Nigerian squad snatch victory over Ghana in Wednesday’s friendly match at the 2025 Unity Cup.

The Eagles will battle Ghana’s Black Stars in the second semi-final of the four-nation invitational competition with a squad that has ten home-based players.

The Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) banner bearers will be gunning for shirts alongside 13 stars from overseas, in what could be a terse rivalry in their camp, hence Agu’s charge for deep-rooted unity to radiate through the team.

With seconds ticking away to the late evening kick-off at Brentford’s GTech Community Stadium in West London, to determine which side will go on to face The Reggae Boyz of Jamaica in Saturday’s final at the same venue, Agu urged any player called on to play to make use of the opportunity in the best way possible.

The ex-international shot-stopper and former Eagles’ goalkeepers’ trainer opined: “There’s always a point in time when you have to take opportunities that are given to you. This is an opportunity given to them, and they should take it well. So, they must showcase what they have and use the opportunity very well.”

He went on to harp on the factors that will help the ream combine as a well-coordinated and properly focused squad that plays with total understanding among all the players, aimed at achieving a common goal of victory against the Ghanaians.

Agu reasoned further, “When you have the home-based and foreign-based players in the same camp, you want to see them play together with one accord, unity and understanding. That’s how we’ll be able to get the best out of these Nigerian players.

“We need the best legs to deliver for us at any given time. Be it home-based or outside players, we are all looking for one goal … which is making Nigeria proud. That’s what they should be looking at.”

Aside from making Nigeria proud as a team, Agu also reminded the players that they need to showcase their talents individually, in order to put themselves in the shopping window for better deals that would uplift their careers higher.

“They must all think of using the opportunity given them. We’ve done this before, and many other players before them made the best use of it.

“So, I pray that these ones also make very good use of this opportunity that the coach has accorded them. They have to showcase what they have in a spectacular way,” Agu stressed.
