The year 2020 was a one-of-a-kind one, especially when the Coronavirus brought the world to its knees, but nothing like Kwame Fordjour popularly, known as Dr. UN, scammed elite Ghanaian celebrities and personalities.
Is there not any individual who would not like to be recognized for his or her work? Especially when it is seemingly coming from an organization called the Global Blueprint Award in collaboration with the United Nations and the Kofi Annan Foundations.
Well, guess what! Two of Ghana’s biggest artistes, Sarkodie and D-Black, happily thronged the Swiss Spirits Alisa Hotels on Friday, August 28, 2020, to receive their “water bottle” awards from an uncanny-looking fellow (Dr. UN).
Reacting to the elaborate scam D-BLACK admitted he fell for it after seeing how sophisticated the invitational email looked.
“I haven’t had drama in the first 11 years of my career. It was always the music, but these two happened back-to-back, and the Dr. UN one was incredibly stupid. I can’t believe I fell for that nonsense. If you saw the email, you would have fallen for it. Very well written,” he said.
Kwame Fordjour, described by many Ghanaians as mentally ill, confidently spewed in an interview that Sarkodie gained global recognition through him.
“I have met Sarkodie several times after the awards, he is my fan. Do you know that I made him Sarkodie? His previous branding was not good enough. If it was not me why does he trend with the awards?
“I made him trend all the time. After his issue with Yvonne Nelson, he was not popular until he used my trend and that is where the money is.”
Sarkodie, while visiting Kumasi in 2021, spoke publicly about the fraudulent award scheme on a radio station, saying that he was swayed by the caliber of people at the event, though he was uneased about it.
A host of other highly acclaimed Ghanaian personalities, like Captain Smart, Nathaniel Attoh, Chairman Wontumi, and Berla Mundi, among others also fell for the charm of Dr. UN’s scam.
