Celebrated gospel singer Jack Alolome has disclosed that there’s a serious rivalry among gospel musicians in the country.
According to him, the rivalry is preventing them from opening up to one another, making secular musicians break the gospel music fraternity.
The “Me Dem Yi” hitmaker revealed this during an exclusive Zoom interview with the Max Morning Show in Accra on Friday.
“Ghanaian gospel musicians are not united. The secular musicians are more united than us. We are at loggerheads with each other, and the rivalry among the gospel musicians is too much,” he stated.
Alolome bemoaned that due to the lack of unity among the gospel singers, they turn down feature offers from their fellow gospel musicians.
“This has left gospel musicians with no choice but to feature secular artiste. If we don’t take care, the secular musicians will even take full control over the gospel landscape,” he cautioned.
Alolome cited an unidentified gospel musician who turned down his feature offer and expressed the need for gospel musicians to practise what they preach in their music.
“I remember one gospel musician who is my friend but turned down my feature offer. I told her that I wanted to feature her, and what she told me was, ‘Is she the one to add her voice to my song for it to become a hit? I don’t want to reveal her name, but she said that to me. That’s the reason most gospel musicians are now crossing carpets to feature secular musicians,” he added.
