Renowned gospel group, Team Eternity Ghana has been accused of sampling their hit track ‘Defe Defe’ from a song with the same title sung by veteran singers Hallelujah Voices.
The song, which was released a month ago on YouTube, has already gotten over 2 million views, illustrating how viral the track has gone.
However, what was meant to be a hit track has now turned into a copyright issue as Kwame Mickey, the executive music producer of Hallelujah Voices, has accused them of flouting the copyright laws.
Expressing concern in a Facebook post, Kwame Mickey said the new group used a line from “Hallelujah Voices’ ‘Defe Defe’, for their new hit song.
Despite having distinct melodies, he claimed that both songs have the same lines, composition, and arrangement.
“Who is that Defe Defe Singer? If I start right now, them go say I am mansonia what is the defrents between the 2 songs ??? Some body tell her to report and do the needful that’s all,” he wrote on Facebook.
The original ‘Defe Defe’ song, which was performed by Hallelujah Voices, was released in 2004. It was written by Osuani Afrifa and produced by Kwame Mickey for Kaakyire Music Productions.
Meanwhile, Team Eternity’s song “Defe Defe” has reached the number one spot on Apple Music Ghana’s Top 100 and is topping other charts.
The group has garnered a lot of attention since the release of their third live album, “Testimony.”
