Chelsea have reached an agreement with Aston Villa to sign Emi Martinez in a £7.5million deal.

The Argentina goalkeeper will sign a two-year contract, with an option to a further year.

Martinez was offered to Chelsea by intermediaries following the arrival of Zion Suzuki as the new No.1 at Villa Park.

The Blues had insisted earlier in the summer they were content with their current keepers, but Martinez has presented a late-window opportunity.

It comes just two days after the 3-2 victory at Fulham, which saw Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper Robert Sanchez get widely criticised for both goals conceded.

Belgian Mike Penders started Chelsea’s Carabao Cup tie at home to Luton Town on Thursday night but the acquisition of Martinez bolsters their options between the sticks hugely.
