Renowned rapper, Okyeame Kwame has expressed concern about the “Fire Service” approach used by the successive governments in tackling the issues of Hepatitis B in Ghana.
According to him, the prevalence of Hepatitis B needs a holistic approach in reducing it.
Speaking in an interview with Max Morning Show in Accra on Friday, the “Faithful” hitmaker stated that the cases of Hepatitis B had increased even after 16 years of his awareness creation advocacy.
”After 16 years that we started doing this advocacy, we were expecting the prevalence rate to drastically reduce but the rate is still persistence. It all depends on the side of Ghana you’re and the economic activities. The more you move from the Cosmopolitan areas to the poor or the economically challenging areas, the prevalence rate keeps increasing,” he explained.
Okyeame Kwame therefore called on the government to reduce the price of the imported medicines of Hepatitis B, train more doctors and public health nurses and increase awareness creation to help curb the menace.
”It’s time we stop the fire service approach to take drastic measures in dealing with the situation,” he added.
In increasing awareness creation, Okyeame Kwame said the government could partner media houses and billboard companies to spread the news about Hepatitis.
He also charged Ghanaians to “get tested, vaccinated and see their doctor” early to reduce the prevalence rate.
