The Super Falcons of Nigeria began their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON, campaign in emphatic fashion with a 3-0 victory over Tunisia on Sunday.
Nigeria got off to a flying start, with Asisat Oshoala heading home Omorinsola Babajide’s superb cross in the fourth minute.
Babajide made it 2-0 with a well-taken strike on the stroke of half-time. Moments later, defender Ashleigh Plumptre had a goal disallowed for a foul in the build-up.
The Super Falcons continued to dominate proceedings, with Plumptre and Osinachi Ohale both coming close to extending the lead.
Substitute Chiwendu Ihezuo sealed the victory with a third goal six minutes from time.
The nine-time African champions will face Botswana in their next group fixture on Wednesday.
