Ruben Amorim, Manchester United’s head coach, reportedly damaged a television screen in the dressing room during a heated rant at his players following their 3-1 loss to Brighton on Sunday.
The defeat left United sitting 13th in the Premier League table, with Amorim’s frustration boiling over as he addressed his underperforming squad.
According to The Athletic, while gesturing during his impassioned outburst, the Portuguese manager inadvertently struck the TV, rendering it unusable ahead of United’s Europa League clash with Rangers on Thursday.
After the match, Amorim publicly criticized his team, admitting they had fallen well below the club’s historic standards.
“We are the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United,” Amorim said in a brutally candid post-match interview. “‘I am saying that because we have to acknowledge that and to change it. Here you go: your headlines.
“It’s unacceptable to lose so many games. For any Premier League club, so imagine Manchester United. The opponents are better than us in many details. I am just here to help my players, but we need to understand we are breaking all the bad records.”
Despite the mounting losses, Amorim insisted he would not abandon his tactical approach, even if it continues to bring poor results in the short term.
“I knew it was going to be hard to put a completely new idea in the moment,” Amorim explained. “When you lose games it becomes really hard. So that’s why I’m telling you we are going to suffer because I will continue to do the same. I am not going to change, no matter what.”
Amorim also lambasted his players for their lack of discipline and organization towards the end of the Brighton match, describing their performance as “unacceptable.”
“Everybody was changing position and that is something I will not see again. We can lose but we have to maintain position,” he said.
