Retired boxer-turned-promoter Michael Nii Ayitey Okai, popularly known as Ayitey Powers, has been discharged by the Dansoman Circuit Court.
The former boxer was arrested by the Ghana Police Service and put on remand by the Dansoman Circuit Court on Monday, August 24, 2026.
Powers was picked up by the police following his death threats to the National Sports Authority’s (NSA) Director-General, Mr Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.
Calls for his arrest were made by the Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC), of which the NSA boss was part.
During his scheduled reappearing on September 2, 2026, the prosecution announced the withdrawal of the case by the NSA boss.
Following his release, Powers credited his release to his faith in God, saying, “If you trust God and anything happens to you, you have to trust God.”
He then proceeded to the Dansoman beach for a spiritual cleansing.
