NDC National Youth Organizer: Ghana In Culture of Silence Under Akufo-Addo’s Leadership

Date:

Yaw Opare Addo, the National Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said that the Government of Ghana has succeeded in sending the country to an era of silence.

According to the NDC National Youth Organizer, Ghanaians wish to criticize the Akufo-Addo led government but live in fear so they keep everything to themselves.

Yaw Opare Addo said it is evident that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo does not want to be questioned hence his decision to have pre recorded addresses rather than allowing journalists to ask critical questions in order to bring out the issues like John Mahama used to do.

He further alleged that Journalists in Ghana have been paid not to expose the ills and shortcomings of this administration.

Speaking on an Accra-based FM station, he said “We want a debate from Nana Addo and Mahama. And an independent journalist to moderate the debate. They need to ask questions. Mahama allowed people to interrogate the issues so the issues came to the forefront. Today what do we see? The NPP is paying off some journalists. It is an open secret. The NDC challenges him to a debate on corruption, infrastructure and economic management.”

He further compared the John Mahama administration to that of Akufo-Addo and said “You cannot compare the four years of Mahama to the four years of Nana Addo. How can one borrow 120 billion in three years and five months? Where are the three hundred and fifty (350) schools he promised? People cannot criticize this government not because they don’t want to but because they are in fear. We are gradually moving into the era of silence. Nobody can speak”.
