Midwife shares why pregnant woman must consume certain foods

Date:

The Oyibi Health Center Midwifery Officer, Franklin Sabla has advised pregnant women to eat foods that are essential for child development in the womb.‎

‎According to him, a pregnant woman should eat “4-4 star food,” a dietary context which refers to a balanced diet.

‎Speaking in an interview with Max TV Morning Show in Accra on Tuesday, Sabla said it was necessary for pregnant women to eat food rich in essential nutrients for both the mother and the developing baby.

‎”Most times when pregnant women come to the hospital and you ask them for the food they ate in the morning, they will say porridge and bread. These foods contain carbohydrates so there’s the need for them to balance the porridge with eggs,” he said.

‎Sabla maintained that incorporating foods from different food groups to ensure adequate protein, vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients was necessary for baby development in the womb.

‎He said eating food that helped pregnancies was not by buying expensive foods but by eating lean meats, poultry, fish, eggs, dairy, beans, lentils, peas, green leafy vegetables and fruits among others.

‎Sabla indicated that eating a well balanced food as a pregnant woman was crucial for fetal growth and development.
