GAF COMMENCES SIX-MONTH TRAINING FOR NEW RECRUITS

Date:

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has begun a six-month Basic Military Training programme for its second batch of recruits, following their deployment to various training centres across the country.

The recruits officially reported to their respective training centres on Friday, October 23, 2026, to commence the programme, according to a post published on the GAF’s official Facebook page.

The recruits have been assigned to five training schools: the Army Recruit Training School, Air Force Recruit Training School, Navy Recruit Training School, Armour Training School and Army Special Operations Training School.

The six-month programme is designed to prepare the recruits for military service through intensive training aimed at instilling discipline, professionalism and the core values of the Ghana Armed Forces.

As part of the training, the recruits will study several essential military subjects, including field craft, first aid, weapon handling, drill, map reading and physical training.

The curriculum is expected to equip them with the practical skills, knowledge and physical fitness required to meet the standards of the Armed Forces and undertake their future military responsibilities.

The training will also familiarise the recruits with the traditions, values and professional expectations of the military as they progress through their respective training schools.

The commencement of the second batch’s training comes amid the government’s decision to suspend fresh applications for recruitment into the various security services in 2027 to address the backlog of qualified applicants awaiting enlistment.

The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, announced that the government would not open applications for new recruitment into the security services next year, explaining that the priority would be to clear the existing backlog.

According to the minister, the decision follows instructions from President John Dramani Mahama and is intended to create room for applicants who have successfully completed the recruitment process but could not be admitted for training because of limited capacity.

The government intends to prioritise these eligible applicants before opening the recruitment process to new applicants.

The policy is expected to affect recruitment into the various security agencies, including the Ghana Armed Forces, as authorities seek to accommodate qualified candidates who remain in the enlistment pipeline.
