A renowned nurse at Madina Polyclinic-Kekele, Blaise Ackom, has cautioned women in their menstrual cycle against wearing pads that have been exposed to the air for minutes.
He observed that some women lay pads in their pants and go to the bathroom to wash down before returning to wear the pads.
According to him, the pad attracts germs and some impurities in the room, which could cause health complications.
Speaking exclusively to Max Morning Agenda in Accra on Tuesday to observe the World Menstrual Hygiene Day celebration, Ackom stated that the act was a dangerous practice and warned women to desist from it.
“For safety reasons, send the pad and the pant to the bathhouse so that after bathing, you tear the pad cover and gently lay it inside the pant. Wear it immediately,” he said.
Ackom also warned against wearing fashionable pants like g-string, nylon, and see-through pants during the menstrual period to avoid spreading germs in the private part and leakage during that period.
He further reiterated calls on women to have clean hands before using pads and put safety etiquette in place during the moment of menstruation.
