Darkoo, known privately as Oluwafisay Isa, a British-Nigerian rapper and singer, has disclosed how her parents reacted to her coming out as a queer.
According to Darkoo, who on Layo’s ‘The Appointment Show’ made this revelation that she felt relieved since opening up to her family about her sexual preference.
Though her taste for women is not acceptable in Nigeria, with her father not interested in her preference, she admitted she couldn’t be much happier.
“The day I told my mom [about my sexuality], it felt like a massive weight off my shoulder… I’ve been happy since then,” she said.
“Opening up to my mom and dad was a great relief. It was hard on my mom more than my dad because I’m closer to her. It was very emotional for my mom.
“My dad was not really interested in the conversation but at the end of the day, I’m living my life. And that’s what I’m doing.”
