#MaxEntertainment: Camidoh urges Ghanaians to be exploitative as Nigerians

Date:

Afrobeats musician Camidoh has commended the Nigerians for their aggressive nature when it comes to promoting their craft.

According to him, he applied such aggressiveness in the promotion of his “Sugarcane” hit song.

Speaking in an “Uncut with D-Black” show, Camidoh admitted that Nigerians were relentless when they were pursuing something and were also passionate about their craft.

That, he observed, was lacking in the Ghanaian industry; hence, he applied such tactics, and almost all the songs he has composed so far have become massive hits.

“We’re not as exploiting as Nigerians. That’s the only problem. When I put out sugar cane, I remember how I used to call people every day. ‘You don’t do some TikTok videos. What’s up?’ because that’s what Nigerians are. That’s who they are. Like, they go pursue you, make you do what you have to do,” he said.

Camidoh noted that some local musicians were not fighting enough to earn airplay.

He said they should have that zeal, passion, and drive to get their music played everywhere.

“And that’s one thing I feel like many Ghanaians don’t have. For me, it’s about, do you want this song to be played? If you want it to be played, go to that DJ. Make it happen,” he said.

Camidoh expressed the need for local musicians to learn from the Nigerians and take advantage of all opportunities to push their craft.

“Let’s say there’s this little spot. You don’t think it’s relevant, but it’s very relevant. Go there and say, ‘Okay, guy, I’m giving you GHC500 every night. Please record’, monitor him, and make sure he plays it every night. I’m giving you this money. Play this. And you see, the more you hear the record, the more people hear and the more people like it,” he added.

Camidoh was nominated for the 2023 Viewer’s Choice: Best New International Act at the BET after winning several awards in the industry.

His song, Sugarcane, which was released in November 2021, became a viral track on social media platforms, especially on TikTok, and it obtained the number 5 spot on Shazam’s top 200 most searched Afropop songs.
