Mr. Macaiah Addai, the Pastor of the 7th Day Pentecostal Assemblies in Adeabeba, Kumasi, appeared before the Manhyia palace for allegedly snatching his member’s wife.
He was accompanied by members of his church to the Manhyia palace as a five-member panel in the palace of the Asantehemaa ruled Pastor Macaiah Addai guilty of the accusations.
The Pastor, who already had three wives, was instructed by the tribunal to offer the blood of four sheep in order to make amends for his transgressions and appease the local deities.
Pastor Macaiah was instructed to pay GHC 6000 in cash instead of slaughtering the sheep as originally planned after a chief in Kumasi intervened on his behalf.
In addition, he was asked to pay an amount of GHC 20,000 to the man whose wife he allegedly snatched, Mr. Kofi Adjei.
Describing his trauma to the five-member panel at the Manhyia palace, Mr. Kofi Adjei said he and his wife, Madam Gloria Amponsah, had been married for 21 years. Prior to his wife’s conduct suddenly changing and her starting to ask for a divorce, they had been living together peacefully and raising their children.
In his defense, Pastor Addai told Mr. Adjei that, his wife, Madam Gloria Amponsah approached him and said she has sent schnapps to Mr Adjei’s family, which in the Akan culture signifies divorce.
Pastor Macaiah claimed that he had taken Gloria Amponsa as his wife only because she had informed him that she had divorced Mr. Kofi Adjei.
“Two days later, I discovered that my wife was living with Pastor Macaiah Addai as a married couple. For over a year and a half, all my attempts to convince my wife to return home have failed,” Mr. Adjei tearfully stated.
The case has been adjourned until Tuesday, June 20, 2023, for the final verdict and conclusion of the matter.
