Hundreds of patients are set to be affected by an industrial action by the laboratory department at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
Services at the Outpatient Department (OPD) have been withdrawn by doctors at the hospital following a dispute involving laboratory personnel at the Central Laboratory.
The Korle Bu Doctors Association (KODA) cited safety concerns of patients and the integrity of clinical decision-making processes, necessitating the action.
“KODA withdraws all outpatient services (OPD) from Monday, May 4, 2026. Escalation towards suspension of in-patient services will be communicated in due course,” the statement said.
KODA is demanding that all specialised laboratory results be reviewed and validated by qualified laboratory physicians before they are released for clinical use.
It is also calling for unrestricted access to laboratory systems and equipment for both clinical services and academic work, insisting that any limitations undermine the hospital’s operational efficiency.
