Former editor of Kotoko Express, Jerome Otchere, has expressed his disbelief in Abdul Karim Zito being the right man to lead Asante Kotoko.
Karim Zito is expected to take over as head coach of Asante Kotoko after the swift dismissal of Dr Prosper Narteh Ogum following a series of bad results which has resulted in the club losing ground in the race for the 2024—25 Ghana Premier League title.
Otchere, a seasoned journalist, though acknowledged Zito’s credentials as a good coach, doubts his ability to steer the club towards a league and cup double.
“I doubt. That would be putting too much pressure on Zito, and I’ll be honest, Zito is a very good coach. He has a lot of experience. He’s been in and out of Kotoko for some time.
He’s a former player of the club and knows the psyche of the club. Whatever Zito comes to do would be a gain for the interim. He’s coming to fix a mess he didn’t create,” Mr Otchere said to Nana Darkwa Gyasi on Max FM’s Sports Pack show.
Kotoko’s issues, evidently, go beyond the egoistic leadership of past head coaches. It involves the management of the club, the players, recruitment processes, and a whole lot more.
Fans await to see what the appointment of Karim Zito would churn out by the end of the season.
