JUST IN: GFA Backs Mahama on Black Stars Transparency

Date:

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has reaffirmed its commitment to financial transparency following President John Dramani Mahama’s call for accountability in Black Stars spending.

In response to President Mahama’s State of the Nation Address on February 27, 2025, where he emphasized the need for openness in sports funding, the GFA assured the public of its dedication to financial accountability. The association clarified that:

Budget Approval Process: The initial draft budget for national teams is submitted to the Ministry of Sports before final approval.
Payment Oversight: All financial transactions related to the Black Stars are handled exclusively by the Ministry, not the GFA.

The GFA welcomed the President’s directive for the Ministry of Sports to engage the public transparently on financial matters. The association pledged to collaborate with the Ministry to ensure clear communication and restore confidence in football administration.

President Mahama acknowledged the Black Stars’ recent struggles, including their failure to qualify for AFCON. However, he expressed optimism, noting that Ghana is currently joint top of its World Cup qualifying group. In response, the GFA Executive Council has taken proactive steps to enhance the team’s Management and Technical departments ahead of the crucial World Cup qualifiers in March.

Stay tuned for updates on the Black Stars’ journey to the World Cup!
