The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has disapproved the Baba Yara Sports Stadium as a match venue for future international games involving Ghana national teams.
Ghana was granted temporary approval to host the Angola clash, which eventually ended in a home defeat at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium by CAF after concerns were raised by many on its readiness.
The National Sports Authority, in response to receiving a major backlash, moved to close down the stadium in order to get it ready for the next international fixture in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Sudan.
“It is important to note that, prior to the match, CAF had expressed concerns about the suitability of Baba Yara Sports Stadium for hosting top-tier international fixtures. Persistent issues at this venue, as well as others in Ghana, such as Cape Coast Stadium and Accra Sports Stadium,” a statement from CAF read.
CAF has asked the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to choose a different location for Matchdays 3 and 4 of the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 qualifiers from among those outside of Ghana that CAF has approved.
