Songbird Jackline Acheampong, known by her stage name Gyakie, has revealed that she cried often in her quest for hit tracks during the dew days of her music career.
According to her, she was pressured to live up to expectations after “Forever” became a hit song.
Speaking in a recent media interview, the “Rent Free” hitmaker said that many were expecting her to consistently release hit songs after “Forever.”
The pressure, she said, always made her nervous and she had to shed tears to pray for hit tracks in order not to disappoint the fans she gained.
“In the beginning of my career, almost every three days, I would be crying at home because the pressure was getting too much, especially when ‘Forever’ blew up,” Gyakie stated.
She indicated that the expectations to make hit songs “are good when it feels like motivation but different when it now feels like you are giving me pressure to do something.”
Gyakie said she did not like to be pressured, but those challenges propelled her to become more resilient as she learned more about showbiz and means to deal with criticism and negative comments on social media.
“Also like these negative criticisms that are not coming from a good place, it took me a while to not really let it get to me when people say bad things about me on the internet.
“But now I could see anything about me where the person knows what he is saying is not true; I would be like, somebody should give me some water to drink because the country is already hard,” she added.
Gyakie has established herself as one of Ghana’s most celebrated female artistes and has released countless hit tracks, a testament to her resilience and determination in the industry.
