Renowned highlife musician, Samuel Owusu, has disclosed that he was disqualified from receiving his share from the COVID-19 relief funds.
According to him, after his knowledge concerning means the industry could stay afloat amidst the coronavirus’ negative impact on the industry, he was still denied the COVID relief funds.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Max Morning Show in Accra on Thursday, Samuel Owusu noted that after his knowledge contributed to the raising of the funds, he was disqualified when the funds were released and disbursed.
”It is sad that they only remembered me as a musician when they were seeking knowledge during the COVID-19 era when all the industry was affected by the negative impact of COVID-19. After I contributed heavily with my knowledge, I was told I will be given something small (money) but when the COVID relief funds came, Samuel Owusu didn’t qualify. A whole Samuel Owusu?” he lamented.
Samuel Owusu stated that his sad story led the MUSIGA president, Bessa Simons to sympathize with him.
”Bessa Simons processed some documentation in a bid to get me qualified for the funds but all to no avail,” he added.
Known for hit songs such as Verandah, Se Nea Ebedie Nie, Maame Abre Me Ho and Abusua Kyiri Ka, Samuel Owusu rose to fame in the early 90s and still remained prominent in the industry.
