Stand-up comedian, OB Amponsah, has described as “heartbreaking” the death of Flying Officer Mane Twum-Ampadu who is among the eight officials who died in Ghana in line of duty.
The military helicopter crash which occurred at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region on August 6 saw him and seven others dying instantly after being burnt.
Mourning the fallen heroes, OB Amponsah took to Facebook to lament that the young pilot was “one of Ghana’s finest” and described his death as a huge blow to both the Ghana Air Force and the nation.
The victims included Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Environment, Science and Technology Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, NDC first Vice Chairman and former Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Samuel Sarpong, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed, and former Obuasi East NDC parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye.
The crew members who died alongside Twum-Ampadu were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
According to the Ghana Armed Forces, the helicopter had taken off from Accra and was en route to Obuasi when it went off the radar before crashing.
