Hearts of Oak defeat Asante Kotoko to win 2023 President’s Cup

Date:

The President’s Cup on the eve of Ghana’s 65th anniversary of its independence.

After defeating their rivals Asante Kotoko by a solitary goal in the 2022/2023 betPawa Premier League matchday 20 match that functioned as the President’s Cup, the Phobians came out on top.

Konadu Yiadom, a defender for the Black Galaxies, scored the game’s lone goal to give Accra Hearts of Oak the season’s championship trophy in a match that had numerous chances but poor conversion rates.

Accra Hearts of Oak had the advantage at the outset of the game and had several decent scoring opportunities, but Danlad Ibrahim’s masterful play kept the Phobians from scoring in the first few minutes.

After the sixth minute, Asante Kotoko changed the course of the game, but Steve Mukwala was unable to capitalize on his opportunity after coming face to face with goalkeeper Richard Ayi. Many people were surprised when the Uganadan’s shot missed its mark.

The second time Accra Hearts of Oak entered the game, it ended scoreless in the first half after Danlad made three saves in a matter of seconds.

Accra Hearts of Oak showed more grit in the second half, but their wastefulness also held them back until the free kick in the 55th minute.

Konadu Yiadom was there to head into an empty net when goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim rushed off his line to defend the ball after Linda Mtange sent a fine cross in the box.

With Steven Mukwala almost scoring the equalizer but being stopped by the post, Asante Kotoko came out stronger.

The President’s Cup has now been won by Accra Hearts of Oak for two consecutive years. They receive the trophy, GH 50,000, and the three points.

After 20 games, the Phobians have a total of 31 points and are currently in fourth place, while Kotoko are now in fifth.
