Ban Polybags Now! CFAG Demands

Date:

The President of the Concerned Farmers Association of Ghana (CFAG), Nana Oboadie Boateng Bonsu II, has called on the government to ban the usage of polybags in the country.

According to him, the use of polybags is causing environmental pollution and severe health risks; thus, stringent measures should be introduced to curb the situation.

Speaking in a phone interview with Max Morning Dew on Max 89.7 FM on Wednesday, Nana Oboadie lamented that the lack of proper recycling of plastic waste was destroying water bodies, creating land and severe air pollution, which in turn is affecting agricultural productivity.

“Ghana should pass a law like Rwanda to ban the use of polybags. This is the effective way to reduce the unnecessary burning of polybags and the improper dumping of plastic waste in the country. The act is even affecting agricultural productivity,” he said.

Nana Oboadie indicated that the low in agricultural productivity was even leading some farmers to apply chemicals on crops to ensure a bounty harvest, which he indicated had an effect on the health of consumers.

He maintained that a comprehensive national effort to eliminate litter and promote eco-friendly alternatives would establish Ghana as a leader in environmental protection.
