Former England midfielder Owen Hargreaves has suggested that Ruben Amorim does not really understand his job as Manchester United manager.
First of all, Hargreaves said the Portuguese’s decision to dump Kobbie Mainoo on the bench in United’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday was costly.
The former midfielder also wondered why the manager has continued to use Bruno Fernandes as a defensive midfielder even though the formation is not working.
Hargreaves said the time is right for the former Sporting CP boss to tweak his team and leave Benjamin Sesko on the bench, insisting the striker is not ready to play in the Premier League.
Speaking on Premier League Productions, Hargreaves advised Amorim to try using Bryan Mbeumo up front instead of Sesko.
Manchester City beat Manchester United 3-0 in the Premier League on Sunday with goals from Phil Foden and Erling Haaland (2).
Despite criticisms, Amorim has continued to play Bruno Fernandes in a midfield pairing alongside Manuel Ugarte.
The 20-year-old Mainoo has not started a game in the Premier League this season.
Against City, he was introduced in the 62nd minute, and he ended up being the best Red Devils star on the night, as Hargreaves noted.
“The way it’s set up now it’s not working, so tweak it. You could make five changes: play Mbeumo up front, Cunha and Bruno as No. 10s, and Kobbie has got to get into the team. You give yourself half a chance; I don’t see it.”
Manchester United have played four matches in the Premier League so far this season. They won one, drew one and lost two of those matches.
