Veteran highlife artiste Kofi Nti has called on musicians to sugarcoat explicit words in their music to make it appealing to the ears.
According to him, children fall on those words without even understanding what they mean.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Max Morning Show in Accra on Friday, the “Rakia” hitmaker indicated that the explicit words make it embarrassing for kids to sing along.
“I will plead with my fellow musicians to cover some explicit words so as not to make it embarrassing for children to sing along. “Though, I don’t really blame the current crop of highlife singers because sometimes, the youth wanted to hear certain words, but I will plead with them to cover their words,” he said.
Kofi Nti mentioned that during the Amakye Dede era to his era, they coined their lyrics to appeal to the ears without making the meaning obvious.
Using ambiguous words and metaphors in singing, to him, proved the artistic prowess of a singer more than using obvious words.
