#GhanaPremierLeague: Football is not slavery – Kwame Opare Addo

Date:

Accra Hearts of Oak‘s public relations officer, Kwame Opare Addo, has chastised “ungrateful” players who depart the team on a free transfer.

In an interview with max.com.gh, Opare Addo insisted that although the team makes every effort to get players to extend their contracts, some choose to do so at the expense of the club’s revenue.

“If you have a contract with the team, the management calls the player for negotiations. I’ve been involved in some of the negotiations, and sometimes it takes more than a year or two.

They [players] always make excuses till he leaves, and after they leave, they do not tell the world the truth.”

Kwame Opare Addo continued by saying that some of the players who departed eventually regretted their departure and wished they could have rejoined the team.

“I once advised a player not to make a particular transfer, but he didn’t listen to me. He didn’t renew his contract and left. A little over six months after his move, I returned home from work to meet the player in my house, asking me to go plead for his return to the club.”
