A comical Henry Ansu own goal hands Bibiani Gold Stars their first win of the opening game of the 2025 GHALCA Top 4 competition.
The tournament, which precedes the Ghana Premier League, is being contested by Bibiani Gold Stars, Asante Kotoko, Heart of Lions, and Accra Hearts of Oak.
Though logically, the change of venue, a day before the tournament begins, may affect the clubs logistically, it certainly didn’t have any effect on the field of play.
Asante Kotoko took a 16th-minute lead through hot-shot striker Albert Amoah, as they dominated play in the early exchanges of the game before Samuel Atta Kumi restored parity from the spot kick six minutes later.
Kotoko stalwart defender Henry Ansu let his side down by scoring an own goal in the 63rd minute. Ansu’s intended pass to his goal appeared to have been overstruck, as the ball flew past goalkeeper Mohammed Camara into the net.
The defending Ghana Premier League champions held on for the win courtesy of Kotoko’s fortuitous own goal.
