The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council has officially approved the GFA Standard Player Contract (GSPC), set to take effect from the 2025/26 football season.
This landmark initiative aims to streamline player agreements across all professional football levels in Ghana.
The development of the GSPC is the result of extensive collaboration between the GFA, its member clubs, and the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG). After years of consultations and collective input, the final version of the contract is ready for full implementation.
The GFA Standard Player Contract will be mandatory for all professional players signing with clubs in the Ghana Premier League, Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League, and Access Bank Division One League.
Key Objectives:
The GSPC is designed to:
-
Ensure minimum standards for player contracts.
-
Protect player welfare and rights.
-
Promote contractual fairness between clubs and players.
-
Minimize legal disputes by codifying obligations.
-
Align local football governance with global best practices.
Implementation Timeline:
A transitional period will be observed where existing contracts will continue until expiration. All new contracts from the 2025/26 season onward must use the GSPC template.
Key Features of the GFA Standard Player Contract:

| Parties Involved | Identifies the player, club, and league. Notes agent involvement, if any. |
| Contract Duration | Must align with transfer windows (July or January to June or December). |
