President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to construct six modern sports stadia across Ghana’s newly created regions to address infrastructure gaps and promote youth development.
During his “Thank You Tour” in the Western North Region, Mahama announced that the Ministry of Sports and Recreation has already begun design and planning work for the proposed facilities.
“Modern sports stadia will be built in the six newly created regions and others lacking such infrastructure,” he said, addressing local chiefs and residents.
The initiative aims to ensure equitable access to quality sports infrastructure, particularly in underserved areas. The new regions—Western North, Oti, North East, Bono East, Savannah, and Ahafo—were created in 2019 to enhance governance and regional development.
These stadia are expected to serve as hubs for both local and national sporting events, boosting talent discovery and contributing to regional economies.
