FIFA has unveiled a new protocol for the pre-match ceremonies at the 2026 World Cup, set to take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

The world football governing body aims to amplify the emotional impact of national anthems by involving every player listed on the match sheet.

From now on, all squad members—whether starters or substitutes—will be present on the pitch during the playing of the national anthems.

Players will enter the field accompanied by children from FIFA’s social programs before gathering around a massive banner placed at the center of the pitch.

FIFA also plans to use giant flags representing the participating nations, along with new visual elements designed to boost the stadium atmosphere.

According to its president, Gianni Infantino, this staging aims to create “a moment of unity, pride, and emotion” shared between players and supporters.

After the anthems, the traditional protocol will continue with team greetings, official photos, and the captains’ coin toss.

For the knockout stages, pyrotechnics and colored smoke effects will add further spectacle to the show.
