The Ministry of Education has announced the allocation of an additional $117.1 million under the Ghana Accountability for Learning Outcomes Project (GALOP) and its second phase of additional funding (AF2) to expand targeted interventions across basic schools in the country.
The funding—provided by partners including the World Bank and the Global Partnership for Education—will support initiatives such as teacher training, school grants, and performance-based incentives aimed at improving learning outcomes in public basic schools.
The announcement was made during the first meeting of the GALOP Project Oversight Committee on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
Delivering a speech on behalf of Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, who also chairs the oversight committee, an official emphasized the need for efficient implementation:
“GALOP AF2 provides an additional $117.1 million to scale up targeted interventions in basic schools. We must ensure every aspect—from teacher training and school grants to performance-based incentives—is effectively deployed and closely monitored.”
He further stressed that the success of the project would depend on the clarity of its goals, the quality of oversight, and the responsiveness of implementation agencies to real-time challenges.
The meeting was attended by development partners, agency heads, and members of the oversight committee, including representatives from the World Bank.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability, and measurable progress across all GALOP-funded interventions.
